Lincoln--The 2007 NSC Racing Series ends Sunday, Oct. 7 as more than 50 three-person teams will brave the 2nd annual Warrior Challenge Adventure Race. The Challenge, which is hosted by the Nebraska Army National Guard at Camp Ashland, begins at 8 a.m. and offers short and long courses, and multiple disciplines, including mountain biking, running, kayaking, orienteering and an array of mystery events.
Series regulars will vie for a share of the $4,800 cash pool, including $1,500 for the top overall team. Team NSC Maxx, a men’s team from Hickman, currently leads the standings with 1,117 points. Within striking distance for the overall title are the Woodsters from Omaha, who’ve wrapped up the Masters Division, and ProFormance Therapy of Seward, which can clinch the Coed title with a solid finish. The current standings can be viewed at NSCRacing.com
Race organizers say most teams in the short course can expect a finish time of around three hours, but the long course will likely take 7-8 hours for most teams. As usual in adventure racing, teams will know nothing of the route until maps and instructions are distributed at the start of the race.
The Warrior Challenge was the brain-child of National Guard Adjutant General Roger Lempke. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in all divisions for both civilian and Guard teams. All entrants receive dry-fit racing shirts. Those interested in competing—there’s still time to enter—or observing the race, may go to NSCRacing.com or call 1-800-304-2637.
The NSC Racing Series is conducted by the Nebraska Sports Council with sponsorship support from the Nebraska Lottery, Tiger Coaching & Personal Training, Champion Physical Therapy, Arby’s, Cycle Works/Moose’s Tooth, ProFormance Physical Therapy, Max Muscle, VIPA Solutions, Red Bull, Blue’s Bike & Fitness/Bike Rack and other Nebraska businesses.
