About NSC Racing

In the fall of 2006, Nebraska Sports Council Officials announced the inception of NSC Racing, with a mission to provide a championship series of adventure races and to provide a multi-sport education and training program for endurance athletes from the midwest. NSC Racing is now a nationaly known for hosting four National Qualifier races.

The sport of Adventure Racing, by the Nebraska Sports Council definition, involves teams of three people traversing 20-60-mile courses that use the natural terrain of an area. Racers typically locate checkpoints along the route via running/hiking, mountain biking, kayaking and orienteering. Races in the NSC Racing Series last anywhere from 2–10 hours for the average racer. Racers must remain together throughout the race unless race directions require splitting up.

The Cornhusker State Games Adventure Race has been the largest adventure race in the nation each of the last three years. A television documentary on the Nebraska Sports Council’s 2006 Link Urban Adventure Race was the top-rated program on Time Warner’s Nebraska on Demand network for several months and earned a national award for best original cable program.

Such accolades led to the selection of three NSC Adventure Races, the 2007 Run Row Rock & Roll in Fairbury, the 2007 Warrior Challenge at the Camp Ashland National Guard Base and the 2008 Run Row Rock & Roll, to serve as qualifying events for the United States Adventure Racing Association National Champioinship held in November.

The 2008 NSC Racing schedule featured seven series races, including the National Qualifier in Fairbury. $4800 in cash prizes was awarded following the Warrior Challenge, which was the season finale. In 2007, Team NSC Maxx finished on top and brought home the $1,500 cash prize. In 2008 it was Midwest Cycling who brought home the Series Championship.

2009 is set up a bit different than the years past. You can still go to www.NSCRacing.com for all of your racing needs, but there are only going to be four NSC Racing events for the season.  The four races are…

-    June 6 - Adventure Omaha – “The Ultimate Urban.”
-    July 18 - Cornhusker State Games Adventure Race
-    August 15 – Xterra Triathlon
-    August 30 – Mud Run 09
