Craig's Corner

December 18, 2008

Greetings,

2009 is fast approaching and I wanted to give all of the racing family a heads up about what’s in store for the New Year.

You can still go to www.NSCRacing.com for all of your racing needs, but there are only going to be four NSC Racing events for the season. The four races are…
-    June 6 - Adventure Omaha – “The Ultimate Urban.”
-    July 18 - Cornhusker State Games Adventure Race
-    August 15 – Xterra Triathlon
-    September 6 – Mud Run 09

The Points Series is still alive, but will not fall under the NSC Racing umbrella.

I have branched off and partnered with BentVenture.com, Adventureracingomaha.com and Cycleworksusa.com for the upcoming series. I am very excited for the possibilities of a teammate finder, forum and bios from sponsors, directors, and teams. We will also be giving out clues, instructions and possibly maps on the web sites before each race. That will give people more ownership and make things a little more creative.

Like I said, there will still be a points series where six races will be counted for points with overall winners at the end of the season. View those races here. The same rules will apply as in 2008 and we will have 3-person long course teams and 2-person short course teams. There will be tons of prizes at each race and big prizes at the end.

The new things for the year would include Adventure Omaha – “The Ultimate Urban”, Kearney will be a night race, an Xterra Triathlon, Cozad will be a USARA National Qualifier, the Warrior Challenge is moving to a new site, I’m adding a trail run and many more fun changes in each community we will race in.

I had a number of new towns that wanted to host an event this year so that is a good thing for the future.

Some of the things I am thinking of adding or substituting in the future are: Geo-Caching, Orienteering only race, 24-hour mountain bike race, Ultra marathon trail run and a kayak race.
Yes, the wheels are spinning.

I hope this answers a few questions for the new season. Keep up on the web sites to see the group workouts and for future events. Please feel free to call me @ 402-471-9710 or 402-432-3622 and e-mail me @ jcraig@nebraskasportscouncil.com with suggestions.

I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year of racing.

Keep Hammerin’

Jim
